What was the first system that made you stop and really listen?
It does not have to be expensive or impressive on paper. A thrift-store receiver, hand-me-down speakers, a Discman plugged into something it was never meant to drive — all of those count. For a lot of us the first system was less about specs and more about a room, a record, and the first time music sounded like it was happening instead of just playing.
Share what was in the system, where you listened, and what you played. A photo is welcome if you still have one — old gear photographed badly in a bedroom is the native art form of this forum.
And if the story has a sequel, tell that too. Did the system survive? Did you upgrade around it, or does a piece of it still play today? The receiver that started all this has a way of staying in the family longer than anyone expects.
The story behind the system matters more than the price tag. What was yours — and whatever happened to it?
